Shampooing Your Thin Skin System in the Shower
This guide provides you with step-by-step instructions for shampooing your ultra thin skin hair system. This method will also work with ultra fine swiss lace bases that have a very light hair density.
By using the approach in this easy, five-step process for short hair, you will safeguard the integrity of the bond and be confident that the front of your system will remain secure during the entire length of your extended-wear attachment.
Supplies
- Poly tip blow dry brush (or styling tool of your choice)
- Shampoo
- Leave-in conditioner
- Bath towel or microfiber hair towel
Step 1: Apply shampoo to dry hair
Squeeze a small amount of shampoo into the palm of your hand and apply it to the hair. Gently distribute the shampoo through the hair in your system; then brush the hair forward with a poly tip brush.
Always be sure to brush the hair forward in the front so you don’t put stress on the bond.
Step 2: Rinse your system in the shower
In the shower, thoroughly rinse your system with lukewarm or cool water. Try to keep the hair flowing in one direction.
Never use hot water directly on your system, as it damages the hair. It’s best to use the coolest water you can tolerate.
Step 3: Shampoo your growing hair
Next, wash your growing hair with the shampoo of your choice. Work the shampoo into a lather and gently massage up to the edge of the base, making your scalp oil-free along the perimeter of the system. Rinse thoroughly with lukewarm or cool water.
Step 4: Towel dry your hair
After showering, lay a bath towel over your head and gently blot your hair dry. Blotting is important, because rubbing will cause the hair to tangle and shed. Rotate the towel to find dry areas, and blot the hair until most moisture is removed.
Your bond — particularly along the front hairline — is especially vulnerable after showering due to steam and heat. Avoid pulling on the front hairline or combing your hair back right away because the system could lift off your scalp. Once your body temperature cools down, the bond will be strong and secure again.
Step 5: Style your hair
While your hair is still damp, spray on a few pumps of leave-in conditioner.
Initially, brush the hair in the front half of the system forward to make sure it’s it is free of tangles. Then, you can brush it in any direction you choose. Because your bond is vulnerable after showering, if you brush from front to back first, it’s possible to catch a tiny tangle with your brush and lift the front of the system off your scalp.
